Baby, Baby, Baby!

As many of you already know, we are having another Baby!!! It was a bit of a shocker this time--we were not expecting to be expecting any time soon--but we are getting excited now! I am 12 weeks along and feeling pretty good. Isaiah wants a "sister baby, not a brother baby" and he calls the baby "Nomi" (Naomi is the name we have picked out for a girl). It is very cute! Gabe has no idea--and I have the feeling he is not going to be a happy boy when the baby comes! Gabe is definitely the jealous type! Oh well, I guess he will adjust.

Other than that, life has been going on as usual. Isaiah and Gabe are wonderful boys and have a great time together playing. Gabe is almost running now, he is always on the go and getting into things or climbing on things. He is a loud boy and he lets us know when he wants something. Isaiah is hilarious--he is always talking and coming up with the funniest things to say--we don't know where he gets this stuff but we love it!

We are looking forward to our vacation to Mexico--we leave next Friday. Sunshine, here we come! :) It will be so nice to get away for the holidays! It has been really great not having the stress of preparing for the holidays this year, maybe we will travel every year at Christmas!

Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and I will try to get some pics and a post up after our trip--but as you can see, I am very bad at blogging!

Here are a couple of recent pics of the boys--they are dressed up to go to a Christmas party with Grandma & Grandpa:

Beautiful Baby Girl!

Our newest niece: Malaika Rose Inez Bovenzi. She was born September 10, 2010. Theresa May did an amazing job growing this baby girl and then bringing her into this world! She is AWESOME! :)

Favorite Books

I love, love, love reading! I always have and I am sure I always will. So, here is a list of my 10 of my favorite books and a little review of each, just in case you were wondering...

1) The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. I fell in love with this book the first time I read it, and it's not even the story (although it's a great story!), it's the writing. Sue Monk Kidd is a wonderful writer and in this book she is at her best. I re-read this book at least once a year. The movie does not even come close to doing this book justice....There is one passage in particular that I just LOVE: "Every human being on the face of the earth has a steel plate in his head, but if you lie down now and then and get still as you can, it will slide open like elevator doors, letting in all the secret thoughts that have been standing around so patiently, pushing the button for a ride to the top. The real troubles in life happen when those hidden doors stay closed for too long."

2) Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. Ok, this book is not a mainstream book at all--my mother-in-law lent it to me and I have yet to give it back. It's a Christian romance novel! I know, weird, huh? Well, it's just a great story and I think the biggest reason that I love it so much is because, like the heroine in the story, I am a sinner and I am Forgiven. Francine Rivers has many, many books and I also love her Lineage of Grace series which are novellas about women in the Bible. The one about Naomi & Ruth is my fave...

3) The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards. I am not sure why I love this book, I just do. Actually, I am looking at the book right now and I see a review from the author of my number 1 book, Sue Monk Kidd: "Absolutely mesmerizing." Probably why I like it so much (and probably why I read it in the first place!)

4) She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb. It's a coming-of-age story about a girl who has to overcome many trials in her life. You will fall in love with the heroine in this story, Dolores Price. And you will rejoice with her in the end, when her dreams come true!

5) 90 Minutes in Heaven by Don Piper. This book is a true story about a man who is in a terrible car accident and dies but is brought back to life. He tells about his 90 minutes in Heaven and it is amazing! I escpecially recommend it to anyone who has lost a loved one, it will make you rejoice that they are in Heaven.

6) The Smoke Jumper by Nicholas Evans. Just a great story. He is the author of The Horse Whisperer and many other books as well but this one is by far my favorite.

7) Something Borrowed and Something Blue by Emily Giffen. Chic lit for sure. But I love myself some chic lit! These two are a series and I just love the stories...

8) Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. I know, I know, more chic lit, but there is just something great about reading a funny book that makes you feel good! I love the whole Shopaholic series in fact and I read them whenever the mood strikes. And by the way, I just found out that Sophie Kinsella is a pen name and the authors actual name is Madeleine Wickham and she has several books out as well. Library, here I come! :)

9) The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Yes, it is an adolescent book. But it is soooo good! I normally do not read sci-fi books but I LOVED it! And I can't wait to read Catching Fire & Mockingjay--hint, hint Ada!

10) Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Great story, great writing. She just came out with a new novel and I can't wait to read it!

So, after getting started on this list, I realized that I love so many books and there is no possible way that I can list them all or even remember them all! Therefore, I am going to try to start a journal and write books down as I read them. And I will try to share what I read with you all...

Some books that I am going to read soon: Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen, The Wedding Girl by Madeleine Wickham, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, Ape House by Sara Gruen.

Busy Summer!!!!

I know, I know, it's been a long, long time since I have posted anything. I am not going to give any excuses for my lack of posts, but I will say this: I have been having a blast with my family and friends and have therefore lacked the time to blog. But now that fall is approaching and I believe things are slowing down I will try to get back on track...

Recent happenings in our lives:

Gabriel
1) 2 new teeth
2) crawling
3) pulling himself up on anything and everything
4) sleeping through the night in his own room (yay!)
5) eating everything he can get his hands on (including the rock that I found in his mouth today...)and therefore
6) growing by leaps & bounds (he is wearing the same clothing that Isaiah wore last summer--when he was 1!)
7) went to Pennsylvania for the first time with mama & grandma--did awesome on his first airplane ride!

Isaiah
1) talking up a storm--my favorite things that he says: "sure" "no nap, ok?" "whatever" (I totally know I shouldn't let him say this but it is sooo funny & cute!) "mama lay down?" and I am sure there are many more things that I love but can't remember right now!
2) riding his bike (tricycle) around the neighborhood
3) playing his guitar with daddy
4) dancing around the living room to Spearhead
5) swimming at the lake (with his life jacket of course!)
6) fishing with daddy
7) playing with his "cousins" & friends
8) "going" on his big boy potty (not consistently, but it's a start)

Teresa
1) having a blast with my Friday morning coffee group (you know who you are ladies! :))
2) completing the WunderWoman Triathlon on August 15--I finished in 1 hr 23 mins (7 minutes faster than my goal) (This also took up a lot of my summer in training...)
3) went to Pennsylvania with Gabe & my mom for my cousins wedding
4) Spearhead concert at the Festival at Sandpoint with my honey

Nick
1) playing disc golf
2) fishing
3) taking care of Gabe & Isaiah while mama was training
4) working so that we can do all of these fun things on the weekends (Thank you honey!)
5) Spearhead concert with me

And of course, as a family we have been doing tons of fun things--sailing, biking, playing outside, going to the beach, going to the park, camping, BBQs with the Young Adult group at church, and much, much more! It is sad that summer is coming to an end, but I am almost relieved that things will start slowing down a bit...

Here are some high lights from July & August:

The Love of My Life

Four years ago today, I married my soul mate. And it has been the best four years of my life!

Nick, you are everything I have ever wanted and needed in a husband. I used to marvel at how wonderful you are and how lucky I am to have you in my life. And I am still amazed by you everyday. You are an awesome daddy to our boys and an incredible husband! I love you with all my heart forever!

Firsts

When you have children, every day is a first "something". Some of them are big (you record them in your baby book)--first tooth, first word, first step; others are small (and you don't necessarily want to remember them)--first scrape, first fever, first tantrum. This past few weeks have been filled with many firsts for our family.

Gabe started eating solids--his first food was bananas--and he LOVED it!

Isaiah rode a horse for the first time at Grandpa Peter's in Canada.

Gabe went out of the country for the first time to visit our Canadian family.

Isaiah caught his first fish--a 10 inch rainbow trout at Lake Elsie--with help from Uncle Timmy. He wasn't too sure about the fish but was super-excited to tell everyone about it later.

Isaiah had his first pinata at his 2nd birthday party--it was shaped like a football and made by one of Aunt Shasta's students for extra credit. He cried when it started falling apart.

Isaiah got his first guitar (I am sure there will be more to follow) from his Aunt Celina. He LOVES it and has the most difficult time sharing!

I am sure there are many more that I am forgetting (not a first) but this is just a taste of a few. As a parent you wish that you could remember all of them (even the tantrums) because someday your days will not be filled with so many firsts! I hope that all the firsts in my life continue to happen because they make everyday exciting and wonderful!

Two years ago...

we were blessed in a huge way--Isaiah was born! It was one of the most wonderful days of my life! He is such a delightful boy and we are constantly amazed by him. After he goes to bed at night Nick and I ask each other "How did we get such a smart, cute, happy, well-behaved, and all-around awesome boy?!"
To celebrate his 2nd birthday here are a few of my favorite things about Isaiah:
He says "bless you, mama" when I sneeze. He says "thank you, mama" a few thousand times a day whenever I do something for him (and it melts my heart everytime!). He says "Gabe hungry" when Gabe cries and makes sure that I feed Gabe. Whenever we are getting ready to go somewhere, he asks "Zaiah come too? Gabe come too? Daddy come too? Mama come too? Lucy come too?" because he wants to make sure that everyone is coming and no one (not even the dog, Lucy) is left behind. He calls Fruit Loops poops and is therefore always asking for more poops. When I say to him "you're cute" or "you're funny" he says it right back to me. His little bum. His laugh. His eyes. His love of all sports. The way he busts out things he has learned like counting to ten randomly one day in the car or singing his ABCs. He insists on taking a book (or two or three) to bed every night. He waits by the window or door when I tell him that daddy is coming home. And a million other things that I don't have time to list!
Happy Birthday Isaiah! You are a true blessing to Mama and Daddy and we are so incredibly happy to be able to call you our son! I love you Buggy bugger! :)

Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'

Gabe's gone mobile! :)

The Homestead

Spending the day out at my parents house yesterday was wonderful! I love spring in the woods--everything is so green and lush. And you can find treasures everywhere. Yesterday while walking around the property I found:

A pink (once red) motorcycle, enough yummy morel mushrooms that my mom could make mushroom soup, frog eggs in the pond (which I can't wait until they are frogs and I can show them to Isaiah!), a Keystone beer can (not really a good find), a couple of plastic potted plant containers (which came in rather handy for collecting previously mentioned mushrooms), a red and black centipede (I showed it to Isaiah and he called it a snake), and a beautiful birds nest with 4 precious eggs inside and one little mama sitting on them. Ok, I didn't actually find the birds nest, my Mom showed it to me, but still, it IS an awesome treasure! :)
Sorry the eggs are out of focus, I didn't want to get too close!

The day started out as just a short visit to see the cousins, Audrey & Lola, and to pick up some wood for making our boxed gardens. It turns out the wood was in a big pile and was riddled with nails. After de-nailing, cutting, and power-washing the wood (THANK YOU MOM & DAD FOR ALL YOUR HELP!), we had been there all day! It reminded me how much I loved living & growing up in the woods. We even witnessed a thunder & lightning storm and got to listen to the rain on the metal roof, which happens to be one of my favorite things ever! What a wonderful day! :)

Canadian Cousins Visit!

Last weekend we had a wonderful visit from Nick's sister, Theresa, and her two boys, Amani and Moses. We had a blast! Of course the pool at the Kroc center was a highlight! The boys all had a wonderful time playing in the backyard with Lucy. We are so happy they could all come and can't wait to visit them in Canada at the end of May!

OK, so I am a bit of a slacker!

It turns out I am really sucky at blogging--I just can never find the time! We haven't been doing anything too exciting, just every day things. We had a nice Easter dinner with my family at our house--I cooked a ham for the first time! :)
Isaiah is just being a toddler--playing with his cousins at the park, playing with Lucy in the yard, playing with Gabe in the house, playing with Carson & Tahlia, going to story-time at the library, and basically just having the time of his life! Oh, to be a toddler again! :)

Gabe is being a wonderful 3-month-old! I can't believe he is already 3 months--time really flies! He is doing great, getting ready to roll over soon. Actually, he rolled right out of his swing the other night (I know, bad mommy! for not buckling him in!) but don't worry he was not hurt! He is giving us big smiles and "agoos" lately--it's so much fun!

Ok, so I may or may not post again soon, who knows! I know it doesn't seem like I am that busy but I am sure that all of you out there who have kids understand how hard it is to get time to yourself! So, blog you later, or not...

A couple cute ones... :)

I'm the luckiest girl in the world!!! :)

Why, you ask, am I the luckiest girl in the world? Well, I started back to work yesterday! I know that doesn't sound lucky but there are many reasons that it is. A few of the reasons are:

First of all, I have a great job and I am able to contribute to supporting my family. That is a great feeling! Even though the job can be super-stressful and busy, I have wonderful co-workers and that makes all the difference in the world.

Second (and most importantly) I am super lucky that my wonderful husband gets to stay home with the boys while I work! He did an awesome job yesterday and even brought the boys in for lunch (which is no easy feat)!

Third, Nick loves staying home with the boys and the boys love having Daddy at home! :) I am so happy that Nick gets to have special time with the boys and no Mommy around! It helps them bond and makes them have a really close relationship.

Anyway, I am able to say all this today because I don't have to work again until Monday--yay! :)

Nothing too exciting...

The last two weeks have been nice and calm. No big road trips, no haircuts, no exciting milestones reached. Of course we think that everything Gabe and Isaiah do is wonderful and exciting, but I realize that you all may not agree! :)

Gabe is growing like a weed, he is almost 15 lbs already! I recently heard about Aden & Anais swaddle blankets--Thank you Michelle!--and after 3 nights of waking up every 2 hours I decided to try it. It is AMAZING! Gabe slept 6 hours the first night and has slept 8 hours straight every night since!!!! These swaddle blankets are my new favorite baby product ever! All you soon-to-be-mamas HAVE to try it!

Isaiah is just being a toddler. He makes me laugh out loud at least 6 times a day with all his funny antics! He tried his potty out last week--he even had the Sports Illustrated to help (see pic)--but it didn't quite work (he did go potty, but on the floor rather than in the pot!). A couple of his new favorite things to do are: play checkers (he just puts all the pieces on the board and then rolls some dice) and put all of his crayons/pencils down his shirt or jammies (see pic). He is a funny little guy! He is talking all the time, and it is actually understandable for the most part. We are so proud of him! :)
Nick and I are just trying to enjoy the nice weather--I have been riding my bike with the boys in the trailer and he has been playing disc golf. And tomorrow we are going snowboarding!! :) It is my first (and probably last) time this season so I expect to be very sore on Monday. I do have some sad news--I have to go back to work on Wednesday! I am excited because I miss my job but sad to leave my boys for 12 hours. At least Nick will be home with them and hopefully come in to have lunch with me.
Anyway, that is what is going on around here--livin' & lovin'! :)

Hey Isaiah, did you get in a fight with a weed whacker? :)

Before

Luckily Isaiah is young and he won't remember that Mom & Daddy gave him the worst hair cut ever! We decided that $20 at the Hair Zoo is just too much so we thought we could handle cutting his hair ourselves...Poor Isaiah! It's alot harder to cut a toddlers hair than it looks! At least it will be grown out a little bit before Easter....

Two Months

I can't believe my littlest is 2 months old already! Where or where does the time go?! He is a delightful baby and we are so happy to have him in our lives! It's funny but when you only have one child you think that all your children will be just like that one--the same personalities, temperments, etc..., but then you have your 2nd and you realize that everyone was right and that each child is unique. Gabriel is a wonderful boy but oh so different from Isaiah already! He is cooing and smiling at us all the time! :) He wants to be around Mom or Daddy all the time. And he eats all the time! :) Which is why he already weighs 14 lbs!!! Yikes! At least my arms are getting a workout! Isaiah is a wonderful big brother, the first thing he wants to do every morning is see "Gig Gabe" (we call him Big Gabe and Isaiah can't quite get the "B" sound yet). He also steps on Gabe and licks his face but I refuse to believe he is doing those things to be mean!
It saddens me that you are already two months old Gabe but I so excited for all the wonderful things you get to experience as you get bigger! I love you Gig Gabe! :)

Boise

Home is so nice! :) Isaiah, Gabe and I went to Boise over last weekend with my parents to visit my sister Lena and her family. The boys did wonderful during the 8 hour drive down there! Gabe slept most of the time and Isaiah watched movies or read his books. I wish I could say that I did wonderful too but being stuck inbetween 2 carseats is not the most comfortable ride! We stopped at Zims Hotsprings--it's in the middle of Idaho--for a break and it was awesome! They even had a basketball hoop set up at the side of the pool--of course Isaiah loved it! On Saturday Isaiah, Gabe, Bri, Grandma, and I all headed to the Kids Fair at the Expo building to meet my dear friend Erin and her husband and son. It was a zoo! So many people! There was a petting zoo and it turns out Isaiah is not a big fan of any animals except big dogs and cats! He wouldn't even go near the bunnies! After the fair we went to Erin's new house to have lunch and visit. It was so wonderful to see her and spend time with her son Gavin (who is the same age as Isaiah). The rest of the day on Saturday was spent with the Barbot family at home. Sunday we went to church and then spent the rest of the day playing outside--it was a beautiful day! After celebrating Ben's birthday in the evening, Lena, Ben, my dad, Gabe and I went to see Avatar in 3D. It was incredible! Even Gabe watched most of the movie. We headed home on Monday morning and the boys did great again for the 8 hour ride. It was a wonderful weekend but very little sleep was had by Isaiah and I (on Sunday night I ended up with both boys in bed with me!) so I am really happy to be home and slept so well last night in my own bed! And of course, we missed Nick like crazy so we are all happy to be home! :)

Be gentle, it's my first time...

Well, I decided to join in on all the blogging but I have no experience and very little free time to figure it out so you will just have to bear with me! It will be an easier way to update everyone and show off photos of my two boys. We are all doing great! I will post a longer blog soon...
